This is supposed to be a YA, but I would deem it more a New Adult (more adult situations than the typical YA). Korean sisters from Texas now live in New York City as adults. They rarely talk to each other, and while one is extremely successful, the other one just can't seem to get her feet off the ground. But a serious illness brings then together. Actually, 2 illnesses, but only one is addressed in the first part of the book.
I can't imagine going through what these two sisters did. I've never seen a perfect sibling relationship and know that they are like people- all shapes and sizes. These two sisters are no different but what they learn is that they are probably more alike than they thought, and they can learn to appreciate each other more than they thought. It seems like a simple concept, but to artfully relay this in a book with the right amount of seriousness and the right amount of light heartedness is the key to a good story. Mary Choi was able to achieve that balance.
