My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Fluffy. I wish there was more about the movie industry back then. I do have a weird interest in what Hollywood really looked like back then, and I got a glimpse of it in the book, but not enough to satisfy my curiosity. Same thing with the Ester Wiliams world. But this book was more about the lives of the characters and their conflicts of wanting to be an actress and another wanting a fair shot at being a reporter at the Times but instead got a non-reporting job about the World's Fair in New York. The book was ok- it kept my interest fairly well, and the cover is pretty fun. My only real problem with this book, and often others, is that the issues of the times (the late 30's) are treated with current attitudes (Women's rights, LBGTQ, unemployment, etc.). But overall, a book that will entertain, but not change any attitudes or perspectives.
