My rating: 4 of 5 stars
So really, this is like the 3rd book about brain injuries that I've read this month. It makes me so thankful for having a healthy life and family so far. This book is written in verse, and it is powerful. After a gunshot wound to the head, a young 17 year old is no longer capable of living on his own, or talking, or eating. And his 15 year old sister still sees her brother in him, desperate to keep her relationship with her brother. And the twist of the book? The house where is happened is across the street with the boy's best friend, the mother, and the father still living there, having to see the results of a loaded gun in the house. This is not a fast-paced book, but it is definitely a book that shows a frankness about what happens when someone needs around the clock care, and how to still see the person inside. And of course, a love story.
