I finished it! It was pretty slow going at first, but then I finally ignored everyone in my family and finished it. By the end I was engrossed, but it took a while to get there. Basically, Teddy Roosevelt had just lost the Presidential race for the third term. After a slight depression, he went to another adventure (he had been on quite a few) to the Amazon. Although he and his friends had planned on a safer, known route, someone happened to mention an unknown route and bam, he did it and someone wrote a book about it. Once they finally got underway, it was fairly interesting with just the right amount of information about the foliage and fauna and insects that helped the reader understand what the journey was feeling like. Oh, and good smattering of gross information that was pretty cool. The trip itself went much slower than planned, so maybe the book was meant to make you feel that way at the beginning, in which case, well done. But as said before, it was a pretty amazing story, and it makes me a little sad to realize there really aren't many opportunities to explore anymore. Of course, there are definitely some sad consequences of the exploration- mostly of which the exploitation of the indigenous people. But, the book was good.
