5/5 stars This book had so much potential to be sappy, but Rachel Joyce did such a good job to make sure it wasn't. There were some dark places she went with her characters, but never to the cringe factor. For instance, when something bad happens, the people in the book (not characters- they are real people to me now) respond the way anyone would respond. The humorous parts made me laugh out loud, and the sad parts made me tear up. I bit some nails, and I shook my fist at times. And all this over a little music shop that only sold records on a street in England. A street that has become a community and a street that is one shop by one shop being bought out by a corporation. And the sweet crushes and hard crashes all made me feel like these people were my friends. |
