Cute. That seems to be my mantra to describe a book that wasn't a chore to read, but wasn't life changing or something that I will look back and say, "oh, that was a great book!". So, let me just say, this book was "cute", but a little more since there were some pretty fun parts. In fact, I think at the discussion of it during one book club, one member guffawed remembering a few incidents which kind of endeared me to the book even more.
The premise is that a 100 year old man climbed out of a window at his retirement home and disappeared, having many adventures and bringing along several newly-made friends. It was fantastical and far fetched, but I could envision it all happening. Well, aside from the fact that he was also friends in his life before his 100 year mark to Mao Tse Tung, a few presidents, interacted with Stalin, etc. I think this may be a book you either love or just think is plain stupid. I tend to go towards the cuteness of it.
