If you ever read Goldfinch and really liked it, then you will like this book. You sometimes feel like you are going through the drug induced foggy haze of 14 year old Evie. She is lonely, and finds refuge in Russell's cult, particularly with Suzanne. Emma Cline is not only a fantastic writer, she is a wordsmith, creating vivid imagery with just one word.
The author narrates between adult Evie and 14 year old Evie, so the reader is able to see how her life has been defined from her involvement with the infamous cult. There's quite a bit of weird truth to what happened back then to what is happening now. Although the end result from the 60's was to be in a cult, the same tactics of today result in trafficking. Despite all that, though, Evie is a person that you feel for, and although she is not perfect, you want her to champion over her difficult enounters and dumb decisions during her 14th summer.
