After reading Nikki Grime's memoir, I think this book made more of an impact on me than it would have. Each student in this book is a little part of Nikki or some part of her world. Each person has a story in the book. No one, actually, has a perfect life. The only thing that is uniting the students is how each student is allowed to speak from their heart through the art of poetry. My favorite quote- "she bought into Hollywood's lie". So true. What's really funny is even though these issues are about high school kids, there's always the same issues even among adults. Maybe a little different, but basically this is a book for everyone.
