My rating: 4 of 5 stars
As far as true fantasy, this one was pretty good. There were a lot of plots and characters, all seemingly unrelated but in the end, Neil Gaiman packed it all up in a pretty bow. And there weren't too many times when I felt like I had to really stretch my imagination to understand what was happening. There are three plots- one where Tristan is to catch a falling star (who happens to be a girl) so that he can give the star to the girl of his dreams. So there's that adventure. There's also the king of Stormhold and his sons who are all vying to be the next ruler by killing each other. And finally, there are the Lillam who are witches and need the heart of the star to remain young, so the witch-queen is out to find the star. My takeaways from the book are that what we think we truly desire may be different than our expectations. Also, our chains that bind us to things we don't want or need can be broken. And finally, don't kill people. It's just mean.
