My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Talk about metaphors! I mean, read about metaphors! I had read another book by this author and it was a lot over my head, and I almost lost all meaning on this YA, but I brought it back together and it was a little bit more easy to figure out. So some truths that came out of the book (which is really a 3.5, but I am still processing, so it can be a 4 for now): Monsters don't have a "look", but angels are to be feared. In this book, absolutely true. There has to be something about redemption, but I will need to be told what it is. Pet was kept the "monster" who is not a monster secret from her parents after they told her to put it back (you truly have to read the book to understand what I just said). This is one example of how the book was about child-like perceptions that adults have tuned out or have chosen to ignore because of the truth is too hard. I can understand why this book got some great accolades, but it's one I will have to decipher for the next week to truly appreciate all it was saying.
BONUS- it was read by Christopher Myers- super cool!
