This book resonated with me, but may not with others. It illustrated the Venn diagram of an African American girl's perception of a riot during a high school football game with a Caucasian girl's perception. While the girls try to escape together to safety, they learn about themselves and exposes their own preconceived ideas of each other which slowly rips away as truth emerges. This is simplistic, I won't lie, but it is such a great story because it doesn't expect each girl to become best friends, but more to respect each other for who each is. And they do become friends, but not so cliche as to become besties.
