I have to say that it was a far better book when I read it 35 years ago (maybe 40, but I'd rather not say). I thought it was funnier back then. I guess for one thing there weren't as many different types of books back then, so this one was able to stick out. Plus, it seemed like it was a little slow compared to some of the books today. Don't get me wrong- I still appreciate it greatly, but when listening to it with my 9 and 10 year old, it didn't seem to be as good as Auggie from Wonder, or Harry who went to a school to be a wizard. This was just about a boy who was dared to eat fried worms.
My son loved it, though, so that's cool. And we will see if the movie has updated the setting but kept the nuance of daring to eat worms. I guess it, like many tv shows, should just never be re-read or re-watched. So sad.
