My rating: 4 of 5 stars
So let me actually start with reviewing the author. I've read quite a few books of his- Midwives (my first of his book and was mesmerized), some other one that I wasn't keen on, Flight Attendant, and now this one. What amazes me is that Mr. Bohjalian is such a diverse writer. Mystery, murder, and now this historical fiction book based in the 1600's. I'm just amazed at how well he does different books. And this one is fantastic.
Mary Deering is accused of being a witch based on some things that make me very thankful to be living in the 21st century. First of all- to divorce a horrid husband whose religious hypocrisy should never be that hard. Secondly, a 3 pronged fork should never be that hard to justify its use. The witchcraft accusations are probably the same today- just under different names. I'll admit, it was a long book, but I did enjoy reading it; probably because that whole historical element fascinates me. But also the historical details were so intriguing I wanted to learn more. Well done again, Mr. Bohjalian!
