I am a sucker for re-tellings or how evil became evil stories. So with that being said, I was pleasantly surprised with this story. It had a great blend of the original story (such as the context of the Kingdom of Hearts and Lewis Carroll's other story involving the Kingdom of Chess), and the characters were all working together to lead up to the classic, original story. (I'll be honest, not a fan of the original).
Katherine is a beautiful young girl who is dreaming of one day owning her own bakery with her maid, Marianne. Unfortunately, her status does not allow her to stoop so low, and plus, she has caught the eye of the doltish King of Hearts. But alas, of course, she has fallen in love with another. And so goes the downward trail to her famous "Off with their heads!" line. It is a wonderful book, and one that I'm quite positive many will enjoy.
