Nanette is a star soccer player, one of cool kids, and after reading a book given to her by her English teacher, she now is cognizant of the meaning, or lack thereof in her life. In fact, after meeting the author Booker and hanging out with another of Booker's groupies, she seriously contemplates where she is going in her life. She wonders if she has just been going along with the crowd to do what she is supposed to do. But when things turn awry with her new boyfriend, she crumbles.
With Matthew Quick's style of quirky humor mixed with harsh realities, we see that not everyone should have a label. And Nanette shows that sometimes well meaning expectations only exacerbate the fact that molds are not meant for everyone, especially for high school students.
