Yup, another World War II book. But the cover- who could resist with the typewriter style title? So I read it, and I truly enjoyed it. I loved the characters, and I loved the story, and I loved the setting- London during the war.
A girl in her 20's unwittingly gets a job writing for an archaic advice column. She proceeds to write to the letters that have been rejected for being too racy by the editress. Her best friend/roommate deal with the daily war hassles like gas masks, finding interesting things to distract them from bombings, and of course, love.
I was most impressed that with the nonchalance of the background of the bombings, we truly realize how invasive it was in everyday life. And the seriousness and dangers, which become all too honest to our heroine.
Since I was recently blasted by a snarky relative (WBB) that I gush about books that I then rate just a four, I have rated it as a 4.5. Happy?
