Another World War II book, but every time I think I can't read another one, I'm always given a new perspective. So now I'm looking at Italy, and how much they were affected by the Nazis. The majority, at least according to this book, weren't particularly happy with the union between Hitler and Il Duece, or Mussolini. And the other take on this book which I appreciated is the fact that it is based on mostly fact.
Pino Lella is a boy who is pretty comfortable in his world. But when his Italian City gets bombed, his security and ambivalence does too. He is presented with many different avenues to fight against the crimes, from helping some to escape to doing some undercover work (I won't give too much away for fear of spoilers). All the while, he pines for Anna, a girl he was in love with from first sight.
Knowing that this is all real and the Italian slant (but because of some parts which needed to round the book out, it is considered fiction), makes this book a unique one in its field. It's a long one, but never did I think some parts could have been cut out. Everything was essential, which made it a great book.
And it will become a movie, I just learned today. Cool.
