So, if you liked Moxie, then you will love Beartown. And vice versa because the books are almost the same plot. But this book is perhaps a bit more developed as it's for adults vs. young adults.
In Beartown, the entire dying town is devoted to its hockey team. The team itself is a boys' club, where the strength is in the team, despite there being stronger players than others. But when one of the members does something that goes beyond what is acceptable, the entire town must decide on what to do.
I know that sports in this country is kind of an enigma to the rest of the world- how can we give so much power and authority to people who just like to play sports, but it's interesting to see that it exists, maybe to a lesser degree, in other countries. This was a perfect book for book club as it brought up many questions as to what we value, and what we would do when faced with protecting two things we love that become at odds with each other.
By the way, this book is well written, but the story is very different than his other books. They are all good.
