My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I really enjoyed this book (the end started to get weird, and maybe it just got too far off the beaten path). I loved how it was kind of like Princess Bride where the grandson is sick and the grandpa is reading the story. In the same way, a young girl is dealing with Chemo, and her older brother tells her this twisted tale. And the majority of the story is about Rapunzel, Flynn, and new girl Gina, and a white witch who pretty much reveals a lot of stuff to Rapunzel. The "what if" of the book is that her hair is silver because she is connected to the Moon flower which actually harms people. So she is ok with being locked away by Gothel because she doesn't want to hurt anyone else. And there is a lot of emphasis on the ugly duckling pub, which is kind of funny. But other than that, there are lots of changes that you will either love or hate. I liked it, I wasn't offended by the lack of canon in the end, but I knew going in that this is a fractured fairy tale. Oh, and there's another bad guy, so beware.
