Scarlett Hart is a perfect book for our library and, pretty much, any library. It will appeal to all ages. There are nuances of a girl trying to make enough money with her monster slaying abilities despite the fact that there is an evil competitor who cares nothing about the real population. She has her side-kick adults to help her. She battles monsters on an epic level, deals with the fact that her parents have died doing the same (although we don't find out how), and all this as presumably a girl of just 13 or 14 years old. She can't even drive, yet.
I'm a huge fan of Marcus Sedgwick, so maybe I'm a little biased. But it was good, and the illustrations were captivating. It's one of the few graphic novels I did not just read the words to, but actually took in the pictures and the extras they provided.
