At first I was thinking this was a book for middle school students. It is completely fine for that age, but the more I started to read about the life of Jim Thorpe, the more I realized that the content is appropriate for all ages. Sure, there are parts that have to specifically say that today we should never consider doing to another culture what we did to the Native Americans (hopefully most of us shouldn't have to be told that).
But what Jim Thorpe went through and how he handled the overt racism and heartbreak for many reasons is a truism that all should follow. Just be the best you can be and have fun with it.
I also appreciated that the book went on until his death and discussed many of the blows that continued posthumously. He didn't have the fairy tale ending that should have been befitting to the man who was so instrumental in creating what football is today. I learned a lot about football and think this book is great for everyone despite their preference of sport, or their age.
