Why isn't this book taught in history classes? Why isn't this book taught in most classes? This novel in verse book kept me captivated from the beginning to the end. I had no idea what the Loving family went through just to be with family. Plus, I loved it more because I understood all the places that the book took place, which seemed so much more poignant. The format of the book seemed lyrical and was able to captivate the despair along with the exuberance of their lives. The illustrations could have been a book within themselves as well. This book made me very glad to know that the law no longer stops people from being married based on race, but it also makes me realize that the fight is not over in many ways from attitudes to continued biases and much more.
Thank you, Patrica Hruby Powell for allowing me to fell like I was a part of the Loving family, fighting to just live their lives like anyone else should be able to do.
