So, just a pointer-outer to those of you who are thinking of reading this book. Do not, I repeat, do not read this book simultaneously with Sara Raasch's Snow Like Ashes. I was getting so confused. And I may have liked this book better if I had not been reading the other, which is fairly similar, but not really, but it was. But that will be another book review.
So, basically, Lia has to marry a prince but doesn't want to because she's afraid he is an old crotchety fellow. So she runs away with Pauline who is a servant turned friend. Pauline's family is from a tiny town, which is where they end up, incognito. Well, except that there is an assassin and her, shocker, fiance who is not old and feebly, but a hunk. Each one has found Lia in the town, but we don't know who is the assassin or who is the fiance, so that's a fun nuance to the book. Oh, and her brother has found her. Basically everyone that she is running from has found her but no one wants to admit it. Until one does, and she is left to go on an "adventure", lots of stuff happens, and then, that's it. The book ends. Dangling strings everywhere. No threads that weave the story in some way to closure. Bam, end of book. Bam, end of review.
P.S. I just found out it's actually taking place in the United States in the future. Not sure how I missed that.
