Suppose you knew, like everyone else, what day you are to die. In this "what if" world, Denton is told like all other kids at around 5 years old the very day he will die. However, he is going to die in his senior year of high school. No one knows why or how. Just that it's the last day. So, we basically begin the story of the day before he dies. He attends his own funeral. He does those last bucket list things that all teenage boys want to do. He finds out about his mother who died shortly after he was born. And, he is dealing with a very odd purple rash.
This is such a tongue-in-cheek book; I kind of felt like I was reading a John Hughes script. I can't say that it gave me an odd, refreshing outlook on life, or that I have felt like I left some friends when the story ended, but I can say it was cute, and definitely something I can recommend to the students in our school who hate reading. And after I book talked it to my 7 and 9 year old (edited, of course), they promptly recommended me to rate this as a 4 and 5 star review. So, in honor of my kids, it's actually a 4.5.
