I've always been meaning to read this book, and now I get why people really did like it. I actually listened to it, which was narrated by Sherman Alexie himself. It was a perfect blend of humor and reality mixed in. Junior was just being a student, poor but happy. He wants to have hope, and he wants his family to have hope, too. But on the reservation, there is little hope, just lots of disappointments.
I'm all about We Need Diverse Books, and after listening to Matt de la Pena talking about being a mixed kid growing up in Southern California, and reading this book, I realize that we need more literature to demonstrate all cultures. Not just one culture, but the gradients as well.
Mystery, though. Why is this audio book not available in America on Audible anymore? Anyone know? Seems kind of suspicious.
